molasses
1. A brown, thick liquid that is the by-product of processing sugar canes or sugar beets into sugar. The juice from the sugar canes/beets is boiled to a syrupy mixture, from which sugar crystals are extracted and molasses is what remains. It comes in three versions - light molasses, dark molasses, and blackstrap.
