Cocoa beans are processed to produce cocoa solids and cocoa butter. Cocoa powder is ground cocoa solids. It gives chocolate its characteristic color and flavor. It's also used to make other chocolate flavored foods, e.g. instant cocoa mix, fudge, cake, brownie, etc..
