1. A rich, spicy mixture made of chopped dry fruits, nuts, spices, spirits (e.g. brandy or rum), and beef suet (or vegetable shortening). Traditionally, mincemeat included minced or ground meat (usually beef), but most modern versions do not. It is used as a filling in pies, tarts, etc..
