German Cheese Cake
9 x 13 pan. Bake 300 for 10 minutes then lower to 275 for 60 minutes.
This is best made day before longer it sits more custard-y it gets and really creamy.
Crust: make and pat into pan (sometimes I pre bake this for 15 minutes up to you)
1/2 c melted butter
1/2 c. sugar
cream together
add:
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 c flour (add little more if to wet)
Filling: mix in order then pour over crust and sprinkle with cinnamon on top.
2- (8 oz) cream cheese room temp
1 1/2 sugar
6 eggs, adding one at a time
1/2 pint (1 cup) sour cream
2 tablespoons flour
1 1/2 c milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
you can serve with any topping, pineapple pie filling is good on this
you can bake it with pie filling after you bake the crust add pineapple pie filling or pineapple icecream topping on crust then add cream cheese filling too. |

One of my comfort desserts is a very simple one:
Milk
Chocolate Syrup
Vanilla Ice-cream
Combine the Milk and Chocolate syrup to make chocolate milk.
Add scoops of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy
I'm not sure what it is, but I don't think it's a float, as there isn't any soda-water. |

Didn't cheesecakes originate in Germany - but were 'gussied-up' in the USA? |

Well I do know that German Chocolate was not invented in Germany but named after a guy who's last name was German. That could be the same with the Cheesecake. |

I've never eaten German chocolate - or heard of it, for that matter. With the local (UK) brands, plus wonderful Belgian, Swiss and Italian stuff, I'm more than able to ring the changes!
I still think cheesecake (in a much simpler recipe form) was German in origin, but all the additions were American inventions. And very nice many of them are, too! |
