). Found one site but reading the reviews, am afraid to even call them....although it seems their phone number is kinda secret anyway.

The best price to performance ratio I know of is the Forschner knives. Excellent knives to be had for under $30.

Best bet with Henckels and Wusthof that I can think of it Bed Bath & Beyond. Even though the coupon says you can't do it, the BBB's near me will take 20% off the price. Plus, they have a generous return policy in case you find the knife doesn't fit well in your hand etc. Still, at $80 minus 20% ($64) it's not cheap for a chef's knife... (well, it is cheap compared to what else you can buy, but you know what I mean).

Stopped by BB&B; they said the 20% off coupon was good on any of their knives. But after checking they did not have and never carried the specific one I was after. Seems there are not any real bargains on the web or folks are keeping tight lipped about it. Thanks for the hint .

Was looking for Henckels chef in 10-12. Checked the recommended sites but they were a bit high. Cutleryandmore shows reasonable prices during their sale; wonder if they will ship?

Its almost up, but Korin.com has their July sale going, where you can get a 210mm Tojiro DP Gyuto (8 inch chefs knife) for $42. Best bargain out there IMO. So much so that Tojiro has started cutting off sellers that sell it lower like Japanesechefsknife.com used to.

They did ship and cost was less than local including a 30% discount. Have spent all my knife money for a while so guess I need to be looking at some other stuff..... Big smile

. Man, with this knife, I could do the Indiana Jones thing and clear a jungle path...

Just must comment on the knife received, which was badly scratched and had the tip bent. Called Cutleryandmore and they had a replacement knife to me in three days, including a prepaid UPS label to return the damaged item. The prices were the best I could find, and the service was excellent.

I just got some very nice high carbon "stainless" knives from Tuesday Mornings.... wasn't familiar with the name, they are made in Brazil....and were cheap,and look near identical to classic Henkels dropped forged knives except they had red instead of black handles....... got a great chefs knife for 15 bucks......

Ya know another great place to get good knives is garage sales.......people will look at a motley high carbon steel knife that has greyed.....or my favorite slightly rusted and sell it as junk.....with a little love you can have a knife that should have costed 100-200 bucks.......and will be sharper then anything Henckels curently makes, and hard to find anywhere now outside of Japan.

Yes, had heard that garage or yard sales are excellent forage areas for old, high carbon cutlery, and I had planned on visiting the worlds longest yard sale a few weeks back, which extends 450 miles across Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. Had driven the 127 corridor sale a few years back, and its a load of fun Big smile

: . DW had other plans though because we had guests arriving the day after we would have returned from a two day event; not enough time to get ready, so no yard sale Sad

follow up....

The Brazilian knives are named Mundial.....these are the 5100 series and at least at Tuesday Morning are about 1/3 the price of henckels S series and as far as I can tell better quality steel for sharpening, but likely not as stainless. Boy you can feel the eight to, there is no question these have been hardforged, I mean the steel is dense. I got a GREAT looking bolstered chef knife for 19 bucks......Now that dog will hunt!
