curious on how the people who make the crock pots came up with the high and low settings? I am not asking to test the settings ,i know how to do that. Just was curious on how they would achieve those settings . what they did ? Calling the company....forget....needed something for it awhile back,nothing

I'm not sure what the question is with regard to slow cookers.

if you are not aware, several years back the FDA/USDA/whoever got on the slow cooker's case because food could remain in the temperature "danger zone" too long.

http://www.aham.org is one group that sets voluntary standards for home appliances.

they got their arm twisted into increasing the wattage of newer models.
a lot of old geezer cooks don't like the high wattage because they can simmer/boil the contents, depending on what's being cooked, covered/uncovered, etc.

most slow cookers have at least two settings - low and high - exactly what a specific maker calls the settings is as meaningful as numbers or hash marks on a stove top burner knob.

Low setting still seems to initiate boiling with anything I cook like pulled pork or stew. Wish they would stay at lower temp.
