Which is the best piece of equipment to scorch sugar for Creme Brulee? Will a propane torch do the trick or is there specific equipment to do it?

Get a standard propane Bernz-o-matic torch at a hardware store.

NOT the MAPP gas version.

I use a propane torch, works fine. Much faster then the specialized butane one.
