A really lazy way to baste with fruit juice and certain other marinades is to freeze the marinade into ice pops. Then just rub an ice pop over the food when basting it. Far less mess.

This doesn't work with oil emulsions, alcohol containing marinades, etc. which do tend to separate out while being frozen. It works for southern recipes that marinade with cola or ginger ale; although the frozen ice pops will look very motheaten, the flavor is still there.
