Why is it that cast Fe is not a "recommended" type of pan to use on glass cooktops (according to the manual that came with my new Kenmore glass top range.) |

Just a guess, but perhaps because of the weight of cast iron. Too easy to drop it onto the glass. |

I'd think cast iron might tend to scratch the glass, too, especially with repeated use over time. |
