I saw that a cage is better and suitable for pets, but I want to use it to raise chickens.

There is nothing wrong in raising chicken as long as you're going to keep it clean. It would be nice to choose dual-purpose chicken breeds.

It is better to have a pen instead of a cage. And have it regularly clean.

Though pens are usually used for pigs. But, of course you can use since it depends on how many chickens are you going to put.

A cage is not a bad option, just put something on the floor for them to not hurt their paws and take care of the cage, wash it and clean the dirt!
