I posted this on "Cooking Tips" without any response. Therefore, I'm trying this forum:

I've got a new KitchenAid anodized aluminum skillet and was wondering if it can be used on a ceramic stovetop with a setting above medium. It is rated by KitchenAid to be oven save up to 500F. No mention of any teflon content.

ref the ceramic cooktop - do you mean an induction type?

depending on cooktop type aluminum may or may not work - most induction tops require some ferrous metal content.

as to temps - if it has a Teflon non-stick coating you can use it on the stove top (what else would be the point?) but you want to avoid overheating. that's true regardless of cooking fuel / heat source. a dry pan on a hot burner can hit 1000'F in just 2-3 minutes - hence any non-stick coating takes some care.

do you have any pet birds? outgassing from overheated Teflon can kill birds - take extra care!

It is anodized aluminum...no mention of any teflon coating. Will be used on standard ceramic cooktop...not induction.

Don't crank the heat up on nonstick cookware.

If it's nonstick, it's almost certainly either Teflon, or the same thing from a company other than Dupont. There are a couple brands that use a ceramic nonstick coating, but AFAIK, KitchenAid isn't one of them. In any case, they aren't supposed to be used over high heat, either.
