I hae a whole coconut, shell and all. Is there an easy way to removal all the white awesomeness? Or am I stuck using a flaying knife and shop tools forever?

Alton Brown has a Cooks note on the recipes from his Good Eats show on coconut cake that says baking the coconut for 15 minutes will help.

There were more (and easier to follow) instructions on removing the meat on the show if you can catch a repeat on the Food Network.

Here's a transcript to that episode:
Transcript on Good Eats Fan Page

I believe you want Scene 4 of that episode.

What I do is tap two holes into the eyes on the top and drain out the milk.

Then I hit it with a hammer all along the center line to open it up.

To remove the meat, I use a sharp flathead screwdriver and carefully pry up the meat in large chunks.

If the meat won't budge, I hammer the outer shell into smaller pieces and try to pry the smaller sections of meat off the shell again.

Good luck!
