With only about ten days left before Michelin publishes the 2007 edition of the San Francisco guide, I realized that I had made no effort during the last twelve months to visit any of the restaurants granted the coveted Michelin stars. Doing a quick search for the list of restaurants revealed just that - a list of restaurants without addresses or links. So, I decided to pull together the info and post them in one place.
Originally, I had planned to simply post the list with addresses and telephone numbers on Orthogonal Thought, but Dave Lu (from Fanpop) suggested that I insert a Google Map to show locations. I ended up with what you see below. Just click on one of the restaurant names and the map will recenter and zoom in on the restaurant you selected.

We were in SF in May and went to Aqua. The food was fabulous but they overdid the presentation and the service and it showed in the bill. It would be a great place to take a business client but it was sort of overkill for just two people. It was significantly more expensive than any other place we ate in the city.
Other great places we ate; Zuni Cafe, Kokkari, Jardiniere. |

Peter, I'm a fan of Aqua. I haven't hit all of the Michelin star restaurants in SF, but of the other that I have eaten at, I've found Masa's to have the biggest impact on the wallet (I think we did 450 for dinner for 2, if I remember, ouch!). La Folie was also pretty damned expensive - but memorable.
Gary Danko and Boulevard, in contrast are relative bargains (imho).
But despite Aqua's price tag (and really, I think it's reasonably priced compared to some of its peers), it really is a solid contender for best restaurant in SF (Danko is great too).
Oh, and Kokkari is a wonderful restaurant. Glad you ate at some good places on your visit. |
